Hey There
Welcome to Bell Counselling Services. I am a mental health professional with a background in disability management, counselling and rehabilitation. I have worked with folks at various points in their journey. I strive to create an inclusive environment where clients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their therapeutic journey
ABOUT ME
THE CROCHET COUNSELLOR
My name is Maureen Bell (she/her/hers) and I live on the lands that are now called New Brunswick which is the home of the Wolastoqiyik, Maliseet and Mi’kmaq people. As a third generation immigrant whose ancestors came to this country voluntarily to escape anti-semitism and religious persecution, I acknowledge the privilege of my ancestors being accepted into this country while acknowledging their contribution to colonized practices. I walk humbly on these unceded traditional lands of Turtle Island.

I completed my Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and have obtained my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I also completed my Master of Education with a focus on adult learning. I am a Licensed Counselling Therapist Candidate in New Brunswick (LCT-C23-012) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (10009468). In addition, I am presently a certified vocational rehabilitation professional through the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP #1612).

Our sessions together will integrate a variety of techniques. I utilize person-centered, strengths-based, motivational interviewing and somatic approaches. I utilize techniques from modalities such as dialectal behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy (MBCT) and acceptance & commitment theory (ACT). I am also trained in eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR). I believe that people are the experts of their own lives. Each one of us has a unique story and journey and as such, our sessions will be created collaboratively with your input always taking the lead.
I utilize a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach. I work from a compassionate and empathetic lens with the perspective of meeting clients where they are at and creating a safe, healing and collaborative environment. With many years of professional experience working with disabled and neurodiverse folks, I aim to offer inclusive services. I am passionate when it comes to promoting and supporting individuals living with invisible and/or chronic illness.

I have experience with folks that come to therapy at many stages of their healing journey. I work with individuals in caregiving, front-line or helping roles to explore experiences such as compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and burnout. In addition, I have many years of professional experience with people experiencing work place stress and providing support and guidance for individuals on disability or work-related injury/illness leaves. I am a certified vocational rehabilitation professional and have worked with clients experiencing job losses or transitions due to disability, injuries or illnesses

I am also an animal lover. I have the privilege of caring for goats, cats and dogs. You may occasionally hear and see my dogs and cats throughout our sessions as they enjoy making guest appearances. I am currently taking an animal assisted wellness course with the goal of integrating animals into my therapy work in the near future.
